Am I a Know-it-All?

— 2 minute read

I may act like a "know-it-all" but that is a gross misrepresentation of my character.  What I would like to think I am is a "learn-it-all".  That is, if I don't know something, I tend to want to learn the truth about it and try to understand it.  In the case of having my knowledge or belief-system challenged, I will gladly accept any new information and evidence, albeit often with heightened scrutiny.  I will often turn this around on others who I believe to have the facts wrong.  To not do so would make me feel like I am doing a disservice by letting misinformation and ignorance perpetuate.  After all, these two things are the greatest enemies of living a life based on reason and logic.  When we base our life on reason and logic, we are more flexible and better prepared to handle life's challenges head on, as opposed to avoiding them or repeating the same mistakes when you think you already have all the knowledge and experience you need.  So next time your belief system is challenged and before you resort to calling someone a know-it-all, consider the facts behind the challenge and accept that you might be wrong or that you don't know all of the facts, because one cannot grow as a person without ever admitting so every once in awhile.
