Meanwhile, in Palestine

— 3 minute read

As the world (via the media) watches in horror as Putin's troops destroys Ukraine and murders innocent civilians, a similar story is happening in Palestine. For much longer than Putin's offensive in Ukraine began over 10 years ago with his invasion of Crimea, over in the Middle East, Israeli forces have been bombing and murdering innocent Palestinians while continuing to steal land from them.

Yet the media, when forced to cover the story, is not as quick to find blame for the conflicts in Israeli-occupied Palestine as it does with Russian-occupied Ukraine. When the media does choose a side, it more often than not chooses the side that is using their violent, Western-funded, modern military to enforce an apartheid on people having the audacity to try and live their lives on their traditional homelands.

Why is it that we decry fascism and genocide when it is Russians doing it but not the Israeli government? What is it about a country in Europe that makes it more worthy of our attention than one in the Middle East? Why do we care so much more about the destruction of a European cultural group than an Arabic one? Why does a country that was previously part of the Soviet Union, and within the Russian sphere of influence for centuries deserve to be more independent and sovereign than a region that had it's territory stolen only 75 years ago?

These double standards clearly show just how disingenuous the traditional media and our imperialistic political leaders are when it comes to standing up for freedom, democracy, equality, and human rights. When it comes down to it, they will not hesitate to throw their values out the window, as long as it means their power and influence grows, along with the riches and plunder that come with it. It is the same reason why America is allied with barbaric states like Saudi Arabia, which is implicated in the 9/11 terrorist attacks, as well as the murder of Washington Post journalist, Jamal Khashoggi.

The good news is, it is getting much harder for the narrative to be controlled by the powers at be. People like you are opening their eyes to the truth. You are intentionally seeking your news from multiple sources, including both traditional and independent media. You have a healthy skepticism and are thinking critically any time you are given information about something. You understand that real freedom comes from forming your own opinions based on available data and facts, instead of them being dictated to you.
