Saskatchewan Election

Moe hopes cautious campaign will keep risk-wary voters onside - “Steady-as-she-goes” means that Saskatchewan will continue to see increasing suicides and drug overdoses, increasing economic inequality with the lowest minimum wage in the country, increasing classroom sizes and increasing anti-intellectualism, continued corruption and backroom deals like we saw with the GTH, and a shortsighted reliance on a fossil fuel industry that the rest of the world is divesting from. What a sad and pathetic vision for a province that deserves much better.

Climate Change

A new book calls on Canadians to mobilize for the climate crisis like World War II - If we are going to beat climate change, we have to go to war with it. This isn't hyperbole. It's necessary.

Labour

Citations Needed Podcast - Episode 119: How the Right Shaped Pop Country Music - Country music hasn't always been synonymous with right-wing culture. Nima and Adam go into detail about how conservatives co-opted a musical genre with roots in jazz and folk, among others, and with associations to labour and social-justice movements, to push illiberal, racist, revanchist and anti-intellectual messaging on to the broader American public. Coming from a conservative part of Canada that loves their country music, this was quite the eye-opening conversation for me.

The typical full-time salary in America would be $102,000 if wages had kept up with growth — but the economy has failed 90% of workers - The average American worker’s income has barely changed since the 70s and not because they aren’t working hard enough. It’s because corporations captured government, and pushed deregulation and defunding of public services, which lead to unprecedented modern-day exploitation and the looting of middle class wealth. This is reality for workers in much of the West, including Canada.

The "Free" World

Long-concealed records show Trump's chronic losses and years of tax avoidance - This bombshell, in-depth look at Trump's tax returns over a period of 17 years paints a picture of a man lacking any substance to back up his claims of being a successful businessman and American patriot, while showing that his re-election could mean his creditors will be expecting hundreds of millions of dollars in re-payments from someone who doesn't have the cash to do so.

Louisville Court Rules That Breonna Taylor’s Life Doesn’t Matter - The police exist to serve the interests of capital, not the public. They care not about people but about private property. In Canada. In the USA. Everywhere. Breonna’s sad story is one of a myriad that are written each and every day.

The Supreme Court is finished: Republicans have killed it. Now it's time to fight back - Conservatives lie, cheat and steal elections because their policies aren’t popular in an increasingly-liberal world. It’s time for the left to take a page out of their books and fight dirty to protect democracy.
