Shares of the Week: The Rotten Truth About Canada Edition
Acid test: scientists show how LSD opens doors of perception - LSD is the cure for the narcissistic, dark emptiness that becomes our brains on highly-concentrated capitalism. Is it any wonder why it is illegal?
Discovery of rare mushroom in northern B.C. a biology mystery - These 'witches cauldrons' aren't even psychedelic. I just thought they were super cool. It's nice to hear good stories about our ecosystem.
‘We don’t have time’: scientists urge B.C. to immediately defer logging in key old-growth forests amid arrests - Not everything to do with BC’s forests is cool. Take the tragedy that is the cutting down of their last remaining old growth forests, for instance. It is a little tough to claim the mantle of environmental champion while also allowing this to continue to happen. This certainly doesn’t help Canada achieve its carbon emissions goals.
Photo of massive tree being hauled down Vancouver Island highway sparks global outrage - The regulations that were brought in only shortly after this tree was tragically felled, are still not enough to prevent this type of senseless, short term profit-seeking from destroying our ecosystems. These trees are more valuable to us in the ground. But hey, at least this one is going to be used to make guitars to allow some West Coast hippies to strum about saving the trees.
Remains of 215 children found at former residential school in Kamloops - This is the direct result of the racist, sexist, exploitative, and hierarchical power structures that both capitalism and organized religion (in this case, the Roman Catholic and Anglican churches) commands. Nothing will change for the indigenous people in Canada until we radically transform these structures that still exist today.
Oracle Boasted That Its Software Was Used Against U.S. Protesters. Then It Took the Tech to China. - This is a dangerous and highly unethical profit-seeking game that is contributing to worsening police states bent on maintaining traditional power structures while masquerading as public safety.
School division apologizes for message offending farmers Saskatchewan - Is this the 'cancel culture' that the right keeps screaming about? There is nothing in this response that addresses the offending claims, one way or another, leading me to believe the complainants would rather have this silenced than have a nuanced conversation about something important. It can be both true that farming is extremely important for our economy and for society as a whole, and that we should also improve our farming practices to protect our ecosystems in order to allow us to continue this project called humanity.
Bonus: Algae blooms becoming more intense, lasting longer in Qu'Appelle Valley lakes: U of Regina biologist - Warning, this story may be offensive to some readers.
